Roof
The last few weeks have been challenging. With the build progressing at pace, I’m finding it hard to keep up. There are so many tiny little fires to deal with. You have to balance budget constraints, performance, architectural integrity, and getting people to understand what you’re looking for and to simply respond to you on time (ugh). Our brickies were supposed to take one week… they took four. You want things done ‘exactly so’, but you face the reality that it’s impossible to be on site all day and be across everything. Things slip (the bricks are stunning apart from a tiny little ‘error’ we’re hoping no one will notice!) and you have to either pay additional cash to fix it or learn to live with it.
However, although it’s been overwhelming, it’s really cool is see the result of putting out the tiny fires.
We have a roof ya’ll! (kinda!).
I’m looking forward to what the construction industry call ‘topping out’. Once that last beam is in place and the roof is covered, we’ll be raising the warm glass of fizzy wine that we never got the chance to down when we first broke ground back in April.
What a journey!
