Concrete
Pour, baby pour!
Today we had the first big pour to form the basement floor, otherwise known as a slab.
For the construction novices (me!), in order to make the basement strong enough to hold two storeys above it, they create a framework out of thin steel rods, called rebar. This is used as a tension device to strengthen or reinforce the concrete that will be poured to form the walls and floors.
Watching the process was pretty cool, and we managed to piss off only a few neighbours that day! Wahoo!
