Steelwork
We are now in week 8 and, despite the rain, the build is going smoothly (which is scary to say out loud in case it gets slapped out of my hand).
Luckily the build isn’t impacted by conversations on racial injustice. It doesn’t have opinions about de-funding the police or have to explain the various ways racism seeps into small everyday interactions. Nah. That’s all for me.
This week our home has been really taking shape. I’d love to explain but I think I’ve used too many words in various nuanced and often emotional conversations this week, so, I have none left.
Instead I’ll use my husbands words and some pictures from site today…
“I can explain our build like trying to stay in shape…. wrestling with all the consultants to keep it in shape. The project swells and then looses weight (design and budget). When you get to site you begin wrestling with the space to keep the design for the ground works. It all wobbles and stretches. Then you accept the change. Steelwork arrives onto site and you start the wrestle again to keep the building in shape. The brickwork comes and you wrestle again. The wrestling continues and continues right until the end…. and you’re left feeling hungry.”
On that note… Dinner time.
