Oh, Hey!
Hi. I’m Tope, nice to meet you!
It’s been a full 12 months since we first found our odd little plot in South East London. It’s been a mad ride so far, and as we haven’t even broken ground yet, there’s a lot more fun heading our way over the next 12 months.
As the first born of Nigerian parents who came to the UK in the early 80s, I know the weight that building ‘back home’ where they were born carries for their generation. So, to have the opportunity to build my first home here, is both exciting and humbling.
The point of this blog is to share our experiences so far, the lessons learned, and to document what lies ahead of us, with the hope that we can leave our little mark the UK self-build community and show what we accomplished. My aim is that our project inspires someone to look at the way they see home ownership and the potential of small spaces a little differently.
Alongside documenting the progression of the build I’ll also be covering various topics including accessing self-build finance, managing and tracking your build budget, working with an interior designer, and why the blog is called ‘Daddy, Build me a Pink House’.
All that said, even if this blog doesn’t accomplish any of those things, at least I’ll be able to look back at this and remember all the madness when my memory starts to fade!
